Understanding how split rotation technology enables continuous variable transmission

There are two separate aspects to understand in the RatioZero. The first is how the rotation is split and reconstructed by the four-bar mechanism, and the second is how the ratio is changed by acting on the geometry. The combination of the two enables true continuous variable transmission with gear-like efficiency.

Our breakthrough continuously variable transmission technology, delivering unprecedented control and efficiency in compact packages. All variants with internal chain or rods can be constant velocity and can reach ratio = 0, but work best at slightly higher ratios. Best suitable for low to medium speeds applications, from micromobility to industrial applications.

The second generation of our breakthrough CVT leverages on the same "split rotation" principle in a completely different way, improving the ability to deal with high torques and to seamlessly reach ratio = 0. Designed in different versions with different features, it is the best choice for high-speed, high-torque applications, from tractors to robotics.

Quasi-CVT principle explanation

Our quasi-CVT systems allow a fixed number of ratios, but the engagement can be chosen continuously on the basis of a desired parameter. Such systems preserve some CVT benefits with greatly reduced size, complexity and cost.

Crown Drive

Crown Drive

Simple, but clever and effective, the Crown Drive is a modified epicyclic drive, providing 2 fixed ratios. The ratio selection is automatic, based on the resisting torque - but it can be electronically tailored. A "just enough" solution extremely cost- and energy-effective, scalable to the smallest dimensions and suitable for light mobility, robotics and industrial applications.
